Context
This project involved the full renovation of a ground-floor apartment in Lisbon, Portugal, previously used as an office. The space had serious and persistent damp and water ingress problems.

Challenge
The main challenge was to diagnose and resolve the constructive pathologies associated with rising damp, ensuring a durable solution, while simultaneously reorganising the layout to meet the requirements of a residential unit for permanent rental.
Technical Solution
A full sub-floor ventilation system was installed, designed to interrupt rising damp and prevent future recurrence.

Functional Reorganisation
The new spatial organisation sought to clarify public and private zones. The kitchen was reorganised to include a dining area with views of the garden. The bedrooms were arranged to incorporate two suites and a bedroom served by a shared bathroom.

Bathrooms
The bathrooms were designed with simple, durable solutions, including level-access showers and continuous finishes on walls and floors.

Exterior Space
The exterior space was reorganised with the addition of a low-maintenance ecological deck, a lawn area and a boundary treatment that reinforces privacy from the adjacent gardens.

Before and After
Before the intervention, the apartment had compartmentalised rooms, an excessively long corridor and a characterless exterior. After renovation, it now includes clear living and dining areas, three bedrooms (including two suites), a functional kitchen with garden access and a well-organised garden.
